Sometimes I miss being a kid. Not that being a kid was stress-free, I had my stresses as a kid, maybe just different issues as now. But as a kid, some things that used to make me happy are just not the same now anymore. Like eating mooncakes and playing lanterns and sparklers during the mooncake festival. I was never a big mooncake fan, but I loved looking at all the different types of mooncakes that we’ll have, and their packaging. Haha. Yup, I loved the boxes they came in cos they were all very nice and pretty. Then all of us kids would play with our lanterns outside granny’s house after dinner. And those were candle-lit lanterns. Not the rubbish noisy battery operated ones we have now which the terrible music.
Now, don’t even try to get me to go to Chinese Garden or whatever for the mooncake festival. First I’ll think of the distance, and then I’ll think of the crowd, and how hot it’ll be, and if there’ll be any pests - mosquitoes and bratty kids. Haha. No more mood lah.
And speaking about being a kid, it brings back a hell lot of memories. And somehow, I have an extra strong memory of the cycling door to door char kway tiao man.
It was a long time ago when the char kway tiao man comes cycling with his wok and ingredients etc from street to street and we kids would be so damn ecstatic we’d run out to stop him and stand there and watch him cook it and the char kway tiao he cooks is bloody orgasmic. At least that’s what I can remember. Sometimes, it’s the whole mood that makes it super tasty, even if it may be just ok.
Okok, I dunno what this post is about. Redundancy at it’s peak. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival everyone! (It is today right? Haha ok I’m not sure but whatever)
Here’s one of the nicer mooncake packagings we got this year.

It’s from Four Seasons and it’s really pretty!
