Just when I feel like I can finally sleep cos miracles of miracles, I’m actually feeling quite tired, I couldn’t, simply cos I had to go get ready and pick Grandma and Elaine up and head over to Shangri-La for Grandma’s birthday lunch earlier today! Mum’s idea of course cos of the ‘flash your age’ promotion. Grandma turns 74 today so we got 74% off our total bill. Haha. Good that it’s such a big discount cos my craving for buffet at The Line hasn’t been anywhere near strong for quite awhile. Anyway because there were 6 of us going, we ended up driving 2 cars down, with the mother fetching Grandpa and the asshole. I’m glad I wasn’t in the same car as the asshole, but driving my aunty’s car was quite a terrible experience as well. It feels like it’s gonna fall apart anytime soon and it’s weird to floor the accelerator and not have the car respond accordingly. It’s like a toy car. A very slow toy car, which is why I decided to head over a little earlier cos Shangri-La is not very flexible about waiting time grace period. It was scary to see how Gandma stuffed herself with all that food, cos she doesn’t like to waste food. And how I usually eat at buffets is a pick a bit of everything. But she just had to clear her plate so in the end I had to offer to share with her or pass her plate to mum before she can finish everything. *haix* The amount of cakes she had was terrible. Cos the slices came in standard sizes, she ended up a plate full of cake which she tried finishing even though she’s not big on cakes. And after I managed to take the plate from her, the waiter brought her another cake - her complimentary birthday cake. Gosh. Haha. But she looked like she was really enjoyed this mini celebration and all that’s important is that she’s happy.
I love you popo! And even though I don’t see you as often as I would like to, I know very well that you are the one who ‘brought me up’ during my younger years and I’ll never forget what a wonderful Grandma you are, cooking me my favourite food, looking after me, cleaning up after me and doing everything for my benefit. As naggy as she may have been/ be, I know it’s nothing but genuine care and concern and I think she’s nothing but wonderful.
Anyway, to recap my weekend, I have to say I didn’t enjoy my weekend. And I didn’t even mind for it to quickly come to an end. Or it was more like I wished it would quickly come to an end.
To say my weekend started on a Friday would be wrong. It started past midnite, which makes it Saturday. But even being Saturday, it wasn’t how my idea of a weekend should be. But that I could understand. What I couldn’t understand was how some people can over promise and under deliver. Maybe not so much under deliver literally, but it was as good as that to me. It’s what people call ‘talk big’. But that was that, and I just took it all in my stride cos I don’t expect people to do things the way I do. Anyway, after we were finally done with some stuff, we went to JB just for petrol and ciggies. And at the petrol kiosk, there was a Singaporean guy who I couldn’t stand. He was pumping petrol for his own car while tubs was trying to park the car properly at a pump and the stupid guy had such a smug look on his face and kept trying to direct tubs on how to park, even though tubs wasn’t even having any problem parking. We didn’t bother much about him but the next time I turned to look at him, his petrol was overflowing from his tank and I have no idea how come he didn’t see it at all. It was just flowing and flowing out of the tank, steaming down the side of his car, and onto the floor. I couldn’t comprehend at all why he didn’t notice. And he was looking right at it somemore. WTH.
Saturday. I don’t even know where to begin about Saturday. Usually the day I love the most out of all seven days of the week. But this particular Saturday was as bad as it could get. And it started first thing early in the morning, right until the sun had set and it was practically night time. I’m not going into details here, close friends would probably hear it from me, but other than describing the whole day as ‘bad’, would somehow be an understatement. It was much worse than bad, and I’ve got the battle scars to prove.
Sunday was a whole lot better. And anyway Saturday was simply too tough to beat. First thing in the morning, tubs and I went to Kranji War Memorial. It was like primary school excursion for me once again. Only difference was I am not as tolerant of the sun anymore, and suddenly the place wasn’t how I quite remembered it. I somehow remembered it as a huge hill made up of a sprawling manicured lawn, with so many tombs that it was impossible to count. Tubs said it’s because I grew up, therefore everything seems smaller now. Haha. Probably I guess. We walked around abit, took some photos before we really needed to head back to the car for air con.

After that, we drove to Changi Village area, in our follow up to visit and look at places part of Singapore’s World War 2 history. Everyone knows Changi is hot spot when it comes to WW2. We’ve been to Changi a million times but we’ve never took notice of what certain old buildings used to be. So this time that was the plan. And let’s just say we ended up very disappointed. For an area that was so rich with WW2 history, we decided to narrow all the options down to just a few buildings with a more interesting history. And the buildings were either turned into a modern building, or one even became a nursing home. WTF. And it was not easy finding these buildings cos it’s damn hard to figure out which number they are as some don’t have anything to identify themselves by at all. The ones we managed to find seemed pretty strict on trespassing etc. So why the government is encouraging people to visit these places, I have no idea but I really think they should update their online brochure or something.

But the thing is, visiting these buildings were not the intent at first. The main thing was to go take a look at the Changi Point Coastal Walk. The whole stretch is made up of 6 different segments but I was more or less only interested to see what the Kelong Walk was like. And so we tried finding somewhere to park the car nearby and walk there. And we realized there was nowhere to park at all. In fact, the nearest possible place to park was at Changi Village market area. Which was like the ending part of the walk, while the Kelong Walk was towards the beginning. The weather was mad and we weren’t willing to walk 2km in the sun just to see how it’s like. So we decided maybe we’ll try again another day when it’s nearing evening time so that we can see the sunset as well.
By then, all we needed was a nice cold shower so back to my place we went, shower, rested for awhile, then we headed to Courts at Tampines for the Mega Warehouse Clear-Out sale and tubs bought a laptop for his mum and I bought myself some speakers for my laptop. Now I’ve got shiok music to listen to. Later that night, we went to Kovan for Punggol Nasi Lemak. Yums. I’ve been craving for some good Nasi Lemak for quite awhile oready and I finally got that craving satisfied.
Well, that’s about all for my weekend I guess. I didn’t celebrate Father’s Day with my dad cos there was no special celebration planned and it was just the usual Sunday dinner. I wanted to go to Granny’s for dinner but tub’s parents had planned to go for a Father’s Day dinner with us oready but it was cancelled last minute so I do feel quite bad about not going to Granny’s but I guess what’s done can’t be undone. I guess all I can do is to buy something for him tomorrow cos it’s his birthday. I hope I can squeeze in the time to drop by town or something tomorrow afternoon to grab him a present though. I’m too tired to go town today, especially when I just came from there.
